Choir

The choir meets on 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at Aughton Village Hall 1000–1200.

If you have not heard the Aughton and Ormskirk U3A Choir- think of what you have been missing. We have a compliment of 35 lovely ladies, and 5 good-looking men, who all enjoy a good sing. The accent is always on enjoyment. A lot of the members do not read music (which is not a requirement) but this does not deter them - or me for that matter. We all feel good after singing the songs we do.

We do not take ourselves seriously, because the songs we sing are to entertain not only ourselves, but others. I get an enormous kick out of leading the choir, and with an average attendance of 25 people to our practices, we must be doing things right.

Should you at any time be feeling down in the dumps, and in need of cheering up, come along to Aughton Village Hall on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month between 10.00am and 12 noon, and I promise that when you leave, you will ask yourself, "Why have I left it so long to join such a happy group of singers?"

The Choir, under the baton of Ken Tinnion, undertook their first public engagement on 16 June as guests of Halsall St Cuthbert's Parish Church in a “Songs of Praise”.

A varied and entertaining programme began with the rousing unison song “When you're smiling”, ventured successfully into a selection from “Oliver” and achieved four-part harmony with “All in the April Evening” and “Hail, Gladdening Light”. The congregation joined in with a selection of well-loved hymns and, to enthusiastic acclaim, Ken encouraged the songsters to an encore with a second chorus of “Climb Every Mountain”. The slightly tense and nervous expressions eased as warm applause followed each number, until the whole choir was grinning broadly when they realised that they had successfully completed their programme. All the hard work of the regular Wednesday practices had paid off. The choir will welcome new members to join them for future adventures in singing
