Philharmonic Concerts


 
Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool

For evening performances a coach leaves Aughton Village Hall at 6.15 pm, returning at approximately 10.30 pm. Tickets, including coach fare, are normally £13.50. Please book and pay by cheque (Aughton and Ormskirk U3A) at any Horizon meeting

Programme:

Friday 12 September – Special Opening Concert with Vasily Petrenko. Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 2 and Prokofiev Symphony( fully booked)

Saturday 27 September – Verdi Requiem at the Metropolitan Cathedral

Thursday 2 October – Sir Simon Rattle conducts Wagner, Sibelius and a new work “Songs of Joy” by Brett Dean

Saturday 4 October – European favourites – Rossini, William Tell Overture and others

Thursday 16 October – Strauss, Gershwin, Korngold (suite from Much Ado about Nothing)

Thursday 6 November – Tschaikovsky Violin Concerto and Symphony No. 5, a second coach has now been booked.

Sunday 16 November - Beethoven, Brahms. An afternoon concert with lunch of your own choice

Thursday 27 November -  Vladimir Ashkenazy conducts Beethoven's Egmont incidental music and Symphony No9 Choral.

Saturday 6 December -  Beethoven Piano concerto No 5.  
Saturday 13 December  - Christmas Wishes with Alfie Boe, now fully booked.

Sunday 28 December and Wednesday 31 December  - 2 special concerts.

After Christmas – The Nutcracker, The Messiah, Valentine’s Day and Sunday concerts with lunch at The Phil.

There are also plans to visit the Royal Albert Hall on 1 August; St. Petersburg in January 2009 and New York Philharmonic on 16 April 2009.
