Ballroom Dancing Group Dancing Weekend

weekendIn June 12 members of the group met for a dancing weekend at the Cairn Hotel in Harrogate led by our co-ordinators.  A great weekend was had by all, the daytime free to explore the area and with dancing each evening in the ballroom. We were able to join in most of the dancing and indeed led the floor with our Argentine Tango - praise indeed for our teacher Ann Breen.

Now we’re looking forward to our next dancing weekend planned for January at Symonds Yat.

Ballroom Dancing Group Summer Ball

On the evening of Friday 1st July we held our inaugural Black Tie Summer Ball in Aughton Village Hall, organised by our tireless co-ordinators Beth and John Blamires.

The event was attended by around sixty members and guests including our excellent teacher, Ann Breen. (Hopefully we did not embarrass her too much). Dances ranged from the waltz, foxtrot, cha-cha etc to the more unusual Argentine Tango, complete with ochos. If you don’t know what an ocho is, come and join us and find out. We also tried a progressive sequence dance, which left some people, including me, dancing on their own for part of the time. Obviously some people did not want to progress!

Music for the evening was provided by our old friend George McDonald who also introduced us to a new (to everybody) dance, the Masquerade Reel. This is danced to music from River Dance and is very fast moving and seemed, at first, to almost involve the plaiting of legs!  Practice has made it somewhat easier.

A lovely touch of nostalgia was provided the “Glitter Ball” in the centre of the ceiling, which was in full working order thanks to timely purchase of some new bulbs.

A thoroughly good time was had by all and more events are being planned for the future. Be sure to get your tickets early.
