Our local U3A has signed up to become a partner in the Race Online 2012 campaign. Its aim is to make people over 65 computer literate. The Computer Advice Centre is there to help make it happen. So if your computer has defeated you and you don’t know where to go for advice, then come along. If you have a laptop, bring it along.

Monday and Tuesdays: You can get personal one-to-one help on all software problems including e-mail attachments, processing photos, computer security, networking, Skype etc. We can also introduce you to a variety of on-line courses produced by the national U3A and many others. We support Windows XP, Windows Vista & Windows 7. Just come along any Monday or Tuesday between 1000-1200

The computer facilities available in the upstairs room of the Scout HQ which can be used by all members any Monday & Tuesday between 1000-1200.

Sessions will restart on Monday & Tuesday 9 - 10th January 2012 with special sessions:-

Bring your new Electronic Toys in January
(Ipads, Digital Cameras, Laptops, Kindles, etc)

We will try and make them work if you have trouble with them, or at least admire them.

Wednesdays: We also have monthly workshops or tutorials on specific topics. The idea is that members bring along their own laptops and use these to work through the topic with the presenter.(If you haven’t got a laptop you can use a U3A one). These are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 1400 in the main room at the Scout & Guide HQ. These sessions are open to all U3A members. See below

Wednesday Monthly Workshops

Race Online 2012 - Getting Going on the Internet

Only about 50% of members of our local U3A appear to have an e-mail address. To remedy this situation and as part of our U3A’s commitment to support the ‘Race Online 2012’ project (a national project supported by a very large number of organisations to help the over 65s become computer literate), the Computer Advice Centre is giving a series of practical tutorials for those just starting to use their computers. The aim is to help new users become familiar with communicating over the internet by using e-mail, on-line services like booking rail and theatre tickets, searching for information and Skype for video / telephone conversations.

These sessions will take place on the first Wednesday of the month at 2:00 pm in the main hall of the Scout Hut. You can bring along your own laptop or use one of the Centre’s computers. No more than minimal previous knowledge is assumed. The sessions will last about 1½ hrs. and there will be helpers available to help you get going.

The following sessions have been arranged for 2pm on the first Wednesday of the month in the Scout & Guide HQ.
